A Poem for February 24th: The Feeling Heart

Today’s poem is about the amorphous shape of feeling.

When I feel deeply and see others moved by emotion, I am convinced the human experience transcends life on Earth. How can something immeasurable, nonphysical, and unquantifiable move us so much?

And yet, due to our human physicality, love expressed through a gentle touch can bring us home to ourselves.

When our body and spirit are at ease, we are at ease.

The Feeling Heart

What is the pain of feeling?
Can you measure it in a cup
or shape it with your hand
Heat it on a stove
or filter it through a sieve

Is breathing what removes it
or does that make it grow
Does thinking consume it
or multiply it even more

The only thing that eases it
in this moment at last I know
Is your gentle hand on my heart
from a hundred lifetimes ago
