Savorphiles

June 12, 2016

A mouthful of eclairs from L’Éclair de Genie

Not all eclairs are created equally. That is what I set out to evaluate smack in the middle of the Place de Vosges, with a blanket, fork, and my colorful spread from L’Éclair de Génie.

I have had my array of the oblong shaped-cream filled choux and have sunk my teeth into many a chilled eclair, delighting in the sweet vanilla filling and ever so slightly crisp exterior with its glossy sheen of chocolate.

On the menu were a strawberry and gold dusted eclair, a caramel sel eclair and, as you may notice, double the trouble of two chocolate eclairs. (I figured that the chocolate eclairs may have needed double the taste test!)

The clear winner was…actually the strawberry one: La Fraise des Bois! This gold dusted pillow was packed with a strawberry mascarpone creme, so intense with summery berry flavor it was like sinking my teeth into the memory of childhood picnics, strawberry ice cream, and sunny trips to the ocean all in one bite!
