A Poem for January 29th

I almost didn’t post today’s poem because of work, but I want to continue my daily poem series for hope during these troubling times in the world.

Nature is always a comfort, and we can look forward to the first vibrant colors that will soon (in 7 weeks!) peak through the bleakness of winter.

Mauve’s Velvet

I tiptoe gently around the petals of a flower
they curve and sway and feel like velvet moss
and I rest my palm on the plush mauve edges
and leap towards a piece of grass
green and glistening in the sun
promising youth and spring eternal after
cold nights in an igloo too bleak
for misty breath that wants to roam freely on the Earth.

This Earth is gentle and brave
let’s sway on the edge of a petal as we find home.
