I love Emily Dickinson’s poem, “Hope is the thing with feathers.” I remind myself of that line when world events require us to find hope in words.
I’m continuing my daily poem series with words for hope.

The sea pearl knows the light
This sea pearl is for me. It’s not for you
Because sea pearls have a home that is unique to each soul
that smiles upon the ocean and sees its reflection
in the deep basin of pure goodness that sparkles out
to the shores of the Earth
Why would I deny this sea pearl the home she’s been
longing for
to be in my embrace that nurtured her vision for
so long
fell asleep to the sound of the breathing waves
restless and yearning
upon the land where we met
The sea pearl rolled into my hand and
the stars burst with happiness and delight
shiny, sleek, and glistening with light
